SIGHTING: Three Japanese Artists
Curated by Reiko Tomii

Part I: Emiko Kasahara (November 1, 2001 - December 1,2001)
Part II: History Lessons - Yukinori Yanagi and Naoyoshi Hikosaka (December 7, 2001 - mid January 2002)

The series introduces recent works by these artists who combine conceptualist strategies with distinct aesthetic styles. While Hikosaka and Yanagi reflect on Japan's defeat in World War II, Kasahara investigates the construction of femininity in Japan. The three share an intent gaze on sites, or issues, that draw little attention in our everyday life

WHITE BOX was founded in 1998 by a small group of international curators and artists as an alternative, not-for-profit exhibition space. Our mission is to stage conceptually driven shows of emerging, established and historically significant artists from around the world.

WHITE BOX invites curators to propose challenging projects with an emphasis towards culturally dynamic sensibilities. Each year our program consists of three or four main exhibitions, both local and international.
