"MB - Family Project": this is the name of the project that MB is developing. He begins by looking at family albums from the 70’s, holiday and wedding albums too. He has always had an obsession with those images where everything seemed idyllic and perfect. Now he intends to reconstitute these pictures. More than 100 were selected. In an early stage, MB is photographed with a feminine (Mother) and a masculine (Father) wardrobe that refer to that period. He recreates his parents’ expressions and positions in each picture. Then the original pictures are ‘reconstituted’ digitally.

The second part of the project consists in a ‘live’ family portrait. MB invites several people to be filmed for 3 minutes – this being related to Andy Warhol’s “Screen Tests” – an evident artistic reference. Some of these people will then be chosen to participate in the family portrait – a tableau vivant.

Still on MB’s work: if his starting point is his personal life, an autobiographic dimension clearly exists. MB tells us that the main goal is that people will recognise common references. We are not dealing with his relationship with his parents but with our own relationship with our parents.

MB - FAMILY PROJECT
is the creation of moments based on my parents’ photographs from the 70's. It is the consequence of an obsession, the search for a reason for the falling apart of a union that seemed so perfect, the construction of a new family. MB - FP is essentially about a loss. The loss of something I have never had.

PERFORMANCE#1 (MISTRESS)
it is the first time that I speak of my father’s mistress. the falling apart of my parent’s marriage is something I am always trying to recreate, to understand. not long after I was born, they separated. not long after I was born, the mistress appeared. I was three years old. my only memory of this period is my mother crying desperately on the floor.
