comunicato stampa

Curated by Leonardo Proietti

Dreams are unconscious messages, visions, often incomprehensible to the conscious mind. By way of dreams, even daydreams, we express our desires, project our will. But at the same time, a dream can be a flight from reality, an escape – into a parallel world – from the ugliness that surrounds us and from the paralysis that comes from the fossilization of our choices in life. Dreams thus belong to a contradictory dimension, an underlying emotional layer. They provoke a stream of consciousness which allows us to renew and cleanse our mind; yet at the same time, construct infinite labyrinths, aware of the danger that we may well not find the way out.

Can we begin with the hypothesis that art derives its force not only from the real world which it observes more or less critically, but that it also intervenes, actively, in the world of emotions, of visions, of dreams? Dream Therapy inspired the exhibition in its meaning as a tool of psychoanalysis. Given that the dream-dimension has a fundamental role in the complex world of introspection, we have chosen artworks which seem to convey this "inner vision." The viewer will have the chance to move from one work to the next, discovering connections (and inconsistencies) with his or her own emotions. By the end, the "patient" will have enjoyed, each in his or her own way, a session of Dream Therapy.
