comunicato stampa

The Florence Lynch Gallery is proud to present the most recent body of work by gallery artist, Maria Morganti. The exhibition is on view from January 10, - February 10, 2007. An opening reception will be held at the gallery on Thursday, January 10 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. With these recent works Maria Morganti chronicles her daily creative process. Much like rock sediments reveal the geological history, Morganti's work reveals the striations of color she applies to her work day after day. This history of color is not static but rather its rhythms ripple through each new layer of color. Her paint appears as rolling waves of vivid color pushed by the force of horizontal paint strokes, but regulated by the recurring vertical edges of the paint.

The paints she applies are autonomous players that have sculptural qualities of their own. As these colors pass over each other in their increasing thickness they don't blend together because each color has been allowed to dry by Morganti's regulated painting schedule. The paint is separated by an assortment of either heavy lidded lines of paint or by crisp static lines of thinner colors. The variety of paint thickness allows the translucence of some colors to reveal the layers underneath, while others rest atop the layers like thick blankets of color. Not only does the paint reveal the many colors beneath the work's surface but also the texture of the wood base pushes through the layers and ripples the thick surface texture.

Her play with spectral colors along lengthy boards transitions through many vivid hues. The sculptural qualities of the paint and the wood boards influence the undulation of colors and textures. Much like the pages of a diary can be read from its first word to its last; Maria Morganti's technique allows the viewer to see the painting from its first color to its last. Maria Morganti was born in Milan, Italy. She currently lives and works in Venice. She has exhibited extensively in the US and Europe. Upcoming projects include a site-specific installation at the Fondazione Querini Stempalia, Venezia. Recent solo exhibitions include, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Palazzetto Tito, Venezia, Espace Galerie Flux, Liege, "I Leporelli" Via Farini, Milan, Galleria Plurima, Udine, G7 Gallery, Bologna, BLM, Venice, Galleria Rubin, Milan, Galerie S65 -- Projeckraum, and Michela Rizzo, Venezia; among others. Recent selected group exhibitions include "Kunst inBewegung/ On the Move" curated by Agnes Kohlmeyer, Kunstverein Ludwigsburg, Germany, and "Maria Morganti & Graziano negri," Galleria Plurima, Udine; among others.
