Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler will present their two most
recent video projects, "Eight" and "Detached Building" at the
gallery. "Eight" revolves around a birthday party, a young girl and
a house on a rainy night. The sense of inside and outside is
interlaced and the appearance of real shelter continually shifts
throughout the video. In "Detached Building," a rock band
rehearsal in a backyard shed and a teenage girl collude to
construct an elusive narrative based upon the detachment of
space, time and gender.
In both videos, there is one camera, one point of view which
remains like a steady, travelling eye that seldom blinks. Further
explorations of the artists's interest in architecture and space,
the "Eight" and "Detached Building" narratives are structured as a
Moebius strip- where the end and the beginning blend seamlessly
into each other to create an endless loop.
This will be Tanya Bonakdar Gallery's second solo exhibition of
work by Teresa Hubbard/Alexander Birchler. These projects will be
exhibited in the fall as part of a major solo exhibition called Wild
Walls at the Museum Haus Esters/Museum Haus Lange (Krefeld,
Germany). The show will travel to Huis Marseille, stichting voor
fotographie, Amsterdam, Netherlands and Kunstmuseum St.
Gallen, Switzerland.
