Julie Verhoeven
Mobile Home is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new drawings by Julie
Verhoeven.
In Fat-Bottomed Girls, Verhoeven presents 40 drawings dedicated to her Top
40 pop songs. Mixing 60's and 70's imagery with a post-punk aesthetic - at
once precious, funky and throwaway - Verhoeven illustrates her all time
favourites, which include The Buzzcocks "Orgasm Addict", Olivia Newton
John's "Xanadu", Roxy Music's "All I Want is You', and the Pointer Sister's
"Slow Hand". Verhoeven, who was recently commissioned to do the set design
for the Cacharel fashion show, will transform the gallery into a psychedelic
grotto, with sexy wall drawings and trashy pop paraphernalia.
Julie Verhoeven is one of the country's leading illustrators and is a
regular contributor to Self Service, Dazed & Confused, The Face and The
Independent on Saturday. Her illustrations, designs and art direction have
featured in both the fashion and music industries  from design
consultancies with Martine Sitbon, Cacharel and Richard Tyler, to design and
illustrative work for Mel G and Gloss, and co-directing a music video for
Sugababes.
Verhoeven's most recent work includes designs for a limited edition of
handbags and accessories for Louis Vuitton S/S 2002; set design on both the
Cacharel S/S 2002 fashion show and their current advertising campaign, and
collaborating with Peter Saville.
A colour catalogue "Fat-Bottomed Girls" will accompany the exhibition.
