Exhibition at ICA: 11 September - 5 October 2008 Auction at Sotheby's: 17 & 20 October 2008

2008 marks the 60th anniversary of the ICA's first exhibition. To celebrate this event the ICA, in collaboration with Sotheby's, is holding an auction of artworks by leading international artists who have played a part in shaping the ICA's history. Over thirty artists and artists' estates have generously contributed to the event, and proceeds from the auction will be used by the ICA to help establish a commissioning fund for emerging artists, as well as to provide vital resources for an ambitious educational programme.

The participating artists include: Peter Blake, John Bock, Jake and Dinos Chapman, John Currin, Martin Creed, Tacita Dean, Peter Doig, Cerith Wyn Evans, Nan Goldin, Antony Gormley, Richard Hamilton, Damien Hirst, Howard Hodgkin, Jenny Holzer, Karen Kilimnik, Barbara Kruger, Robert Mapplethorpe, Chris Ofili, Yoko Ono, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Luc Tuymans and Andy Warhol. Highlights include a group of photographs by Nan Goldin and a mirror painting by Michelangelo Pistoletto from the seventies. Many of the pieces have been made especially for this event, including a dramatic new spin painting by Damien Hirst and a large ceramic work by Jake and Dinos Chapman.

All of the artworks will go on public display in the ICA's Lower Galleries from 11 September - 5 October, presenting a rare gathering of some of the key figures who have helped to shape contemporary art in Britain and beyond. Subsequently, the works will also be on display at an auction preview at Sotheby's from the 12 - 17 October. One group of works will be auctioned as part of the Sotheby's contemporary art evening sale on 17 October, while the others will form part of the Sotheby's contemporary art day sale on 20 October.
