galerie davide gallo has the pleasure to present on September 12th the group show: 'The Distance to the Sun' with three videos by: Andrea Dojmi (Italy), Almagul Menlibayeva (Kazakhstan) and Hetain Patel (Great Britain).
'The Distance to the Sun' is the title of the video by Andrea Dojmi. The work starts with words spoken by Bob Lazar, an American physician with a controversial personality. Some people consider him to be one of the few witnesses of the relationships between American scientists and and alien beings in the area S-4, one of the most top secret military places of the United States.
The video is all played on the ability that has the image of knowing how to build a mystery alluding to the facts without ever declaring them in detail. The video develops according to the logic of the thriller and tells a mystery which of course must not be revealed. The trip by Andrea Dojmi is a journey towards a dead zone of the culture of our time: the alien identity, the mysteries behind the childish game, the colorful puzzle of the landscape that changes continuously following the notes of a narrative deliberately incoherent.
'Kissing Totems' is the most recent work of Almagul Menlibayeva. The film takes place in an industrial suburb: it is the journey of a girl on the threshold of adolescence, in a dead zone. The geography of the place tells stories of ambiguous ghosts, of human beings playing to represent their alienation. The symbols tell about themselves and -as in the work of Andrea Dojmi- even in this case, contain the signs of a mystery that wants to remain so. In 'Kissing Totems' the passage of the condition of childhood to that of adolescence is a trauma that only the power of female ritual can solve. The film is a puzzle of fragments that the technique of double channel is perfectly able to recompose.
For the English artist Hetain Patel the relationship between sound, body and perception is very intense; this aesthetical trinity constitutes the core of his research. In the video 'Kanku Raga' the dead zone in which the artist is traveling is the dead zone of the limits of human language. The synthesis between sound and body can be a further possibility of expression in art and in life. But language contains a mystery. The viewing experience is enriched by the strong and poetic signs that the artist imprints on his own body. 'Kanku Raga' is a video that is able to summarize in an entirely new way visual performance, audio performance and body art.
