An installation of duochrome paintings by John Zinsser. In these new works, including two large-scale, multi-paneled paintings, Zinsser juxtaposes the delicate and sensual effect of oil paint with the industrial surface of enamel. Roger Ackling is a singular artist whose works are beautiful and refreshingly unpretentious. His only tools are the sun and a magnifying glass. By focusing rays of light through the lens, he burns horizontal lines onto pieces of aged and weathered driftwood.

Von Lintel Gallery presents an installation of duochrome paintings by John
Zinsser. In these new works, including two large-scale, multi-paneled
paintings, Zinsser juxtaposes the delicate and sensual effect of oil paint
with the industrial surface of enamel. While the process of making and the
materiality of the paint are evident in these works, there is a degree of
illusion that is both beautiful and mysterious. These paintings further
clarify the polarities that have been a constant in Zinsser¹s work since he
began exhibiting in 1988.
Published in conjunction with the exhibition is a book by John Zinsser
entitled Free Parking and Other Directed Fantasies. The book documents the
period since Zinsser¹s last New York show with a notational timeline,
placing his work in a dialogue with the cultural landscape.
John Zinsser (American, born 1961) is a New York Abstract Painter, whose
work has been the subject of many national and international exhibitions and
is included in numerous collections, among them the Wadsworth Atheneum,
Hartford; the Mint Museum, Charlotte; and Sammlung Goetz, Munich.

Roger Ackling is a singular artist whose works are beautiful and
refreshingly unpretentious. His only tools are the sun and a magnifying
glass. By focusing rays of light through the lens, he burns horizontal
lines onto pieces of aged and weathered driftwood. The results, depending
on the intensity of the sun on a given day, are potent, exquisite totems
that function as objects of quiet contemplation.
Ackling (English, born 1947) has worked in a variety of locations, from the
remote beaches of Norfolk, where he lives, to Iceland, Manhattan, and Japan.
His work is found in numerous museum collections, including the Stedelijk
Museum, Amsterdam; the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tate Gallery,
London; the Kunstmuseum, Zurich; and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum.
