A show of work by the contemporary artist/architect Mel O'Callaghan and artist/designer Mark Megahey.
"we are glass" is the second exhibition in the McKell Building McK 17
PROJECT SPACE and is a show of work by the contemporary artist/architect
Mel O'Callaghan and artist/designer Mark Megahey.
Direct from her recent exhibition in the Art Gallery of NSW Level II
Contemporary Project Space, Mel O'Callaghan's contribution placed along
the length of the Rawson Place boxes entitled Tuesday at Sing and
Maro's, depicts an austere and geometrically defined architectural
landscape. Black poured vinyl on board is arranged in puzzle like
formations, which replicate modernist urbane scapes, and evoke a sense
of distortion of scale as the viewer reconciles the actual structure of
the street where they stand with that of the artwork.
Conversely, Mark Megahey emphasis's the convert nature of the back lane
experience with his series this man is dangerous installed in the boxes
at the rear of the McKell Building on Barlow Lane. Taking as his
departure point the first movie ever made with sound, Fritz Lang's 1931
film 'M', Megahey creates a story board illustrating what he perceives
to be the silent horror of the city grafted onto a gothic fairytale.
