Concept adventure - Episode 3/4. Following the principle of ongoing contamination between successive episodes, the artists deal actively or reactively with structural and fictional elements left along the way by their predecessors.
As the guests for this 3rd segment of the Concept Adventure series of exhibitions, Michel de Broin and Vincent Ganivet are for the first time joining forces on a site-specific work. Following the principle of ongoing contamination between successive episodes, they will deal actively – or reactively – with structural and fictional elements left along the way by their predecessors.
Through their bricolages, experiments and anti-challenges, De Broin and Ganivet make empirical play with the physical properties of matter and systems. While the technology involved can be large-scale, not to say dangerous – construction, mechanics, electricity, pyrotechnics – the discrepancy between the effort expended and the infinitesimal outcomes often has something farcical about it; this because the objects and materials they select, dismantle, reconstruct or use for assemblages, manufacture only entropy. Whether the artists produce "at a loss" some accidental equilibrium, gaseous state or minor miracle, the upshot is phenomena that are sometimes "disappointing" or absurd, but often very subtle as well.
Intrepid but not totally reckless, De Broin and Ganivet are now readying themselves to formulate and verify new – and as yet unknown – hypotheses; and thus to transform, perhaps irreversibly, the initial situation.
CONCEPT ADVENTURE
A series of four exhibitions mounted by Elfi Turpin & Solenn Morel
The Concept Adventure programme has been drawn up specifically for la box at the School of Art in Bourges. Its focus is on the value of the notion of experience (and learning) and the paths leading to the conception of the work, then its execution and exhibition.
Concept Adventure sets out to define the exhibition as a «different space», a staging post where the out of field (of the work, that is) can be interpreted by inviting artists to contribute mainly site-specific projects whose mix of burlesque Romanticism, deliberate underachievement and the aesthetics of failure illustrates a post-conceptual agenda.
