Alvise Bittente - Mamma, perché il tuo anatroccolo nella vasca vibra?

Alvise Bittente è nato a Venezia (e non poteva nascere altrove) nel 1973. Ha vinto premi ambiziosi e ha fatto mostre importanti in musei e fondazioni. Ha esposto a New York a Miami, a Parigi a Berlino a Madrid ad Atene a Bruxelles.

In un bel testo di guido bartorelli si legge” gli oggetti stanno li e Bittente li disegna”. Questo è Alvise Bittente. In lui la perfetta manualità si riverbera di tagliente ironia che mette a nudo ogni cosa e ogni perchè. La fisicità del segno perfetto ribalta il suo perenne cazzeggiare con sentimenti, cose, amici. amore, polvere, polacche e ucraine (basta che respirino con dignità), scarpe di seta, coltelli, cessi, mamma, italietta, denti sbracati e occhi dettagliati, il mondo dell’arte, brioches, Mickey Mouse e relative trappole impolverate etc.

Lui definisce così il nostro nuovo progetto: “sarà una mostra sul sistema dell'arte italiota, italics d'uno stivaletto che inciampa solo sui giocattoli della propria cameretta, troppo incapace di guardar altrove. Un credito italiano che balla, pinocchiato coi piedi rivolti alla propria balera...musicata dalla faccia d'un musicista d'arie in senso di scorreggie s'una moneta...una campagna dei mille lire di una volta! “

Bittente è un Graucho Marx alla rovescia. Graucho è il principe libertario della parola , Bittente è la parola libertaria del principe.
Bittente è un dandy. E’ il dandy che tutti noi vorremmo essere ma che per ragioni misteriose (e pratiche) non saremo mai.

Tom Molloy - SWARM

Tom Molloy (nato nel 1964 in Irlanda) ha ottenuto il Master di Fine Art dal National College of Art & Design a Dublino nel 1992. Presso la Limerick City Gallery of Art, nel 2005 si è tenuta una retrospettiva dei suoi lavori; tra le gallerie per le quali ha esposto ricordiamo la Rubicon Gallery di Dublino; la Lora Reynolds Gallery in Texas; la Galerie Guy Bärtschi a Ginevra, inoltre ha partecipato a molte mostre collettive sia in Europa che in America. Ha in programma per il 2009 una mostra presso l’Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art a Ridgefield, negli Stati Uniti ed il suo lavoro è stato accolto nella collezione permanente dell’Irish Museum of Modern Art, ed in molte collezioni private in Europa ed America.



Le opere d’arte di Tom Molloy trattano di attualità. Molloy tratta dell’attuale situazione geopolitica nei suoi disegni, fotografie, sculture cartacee e in media altrettanto “minori” quali la stampa su stoffa o il ricamo. Il suo lavoro, come del resto l’attenzione giornalistica mondiale, si concentra sugli Stati Uniti d’America, le sue azioni e le conseguenze di queste per e nel mondo. Il lavoro di Molloy (come del resto lo svilupparsi della situazione mondiale, e forse in particolar modo quando gli Stati Uniti sono coinvolti) si declina secondo una logica di simboli.

Quest’ossessione dell’artista per i simboli americani e la posizione che gli Stati Uniti rivestono nel mondo è particolarmente interessante, visto che Molloy non è statunitense ma bensì irlandese, e vive e lavora lontano dagli eventi dei quali il suo lavoro tratta, nella remota e rurale County Clare nella regione più occidentale della parte più occidentale dell’Europa. Eppure le notizie del mondo penetrano fin in quella regione isolata, e Molloy le riceve tramite giornali, televisione, internet e passaparola, come tutti noi. Il fatto che la sua arte tratti dell’America è rivelatorio non solo dell’egemonia culturale, economica, politica e militare, ma anche del dominio di questo paese nella sfera dell’immaginazione, persino di coloro i quali riteniamo che, per nazionalità o residenza dovrebbero trovarsi isolati.

Alvise Bittente was born in Venice (and where else could he have been born) in 1973. He has won prestigious prizes and exhibited in important museums and foundations. He has shown work from New York to Miami, from Paris to Berlin and from Madrid to Athens and Brussels.

An insightful text by Guido Bartorelli states “objects just stay there and Bitente draws them”. This is Alvise Bittente. His perfect draughtsmanship gleams with cutting irony which lays everything and every reason bare. The physical nature of his perfect drawing overturns his eternal toying with feelings, things, friends, love, dust, Polish and Ukrainian girls (as long as they’ve got two decent legs), silk shoes, knives, toilets, mother, Italy at its worse, crooked teeth and sharp eyes, the art world, croissants, Mickey Mouse and dusty mouse traps, etc…

He describes our latest project thus: “it will be a show about the worst of the Italian art system, the italics on a little boot tripping over the toys in its nursery, incapable of looking elsewhere. Italian credit staggering around, a Pinocchio-like puppet headed towards a seedy nightclub…with the soundtrack by the face of a musician of wind instruments in the sense of farting on a currency…a country of the old 1000 lire note!”

Bittente is a kind of Graucho Marx turned upside down, Graucho is the liberal prince of words, Bittente is the liberal word of the prince.
Bittente is a dandy. He is the dandy we would all like to be, but for mysterious (and practical reasons) we never will be.

Tom Molloy - SWARM

Tom Molloy (B. 1964 Ireland) received his MA in Fine Art from The National College of Art & Design in Dublin in 1992. A survey exhibition of his work was held at the Limerick City Gallery of Art in 2005, his exhibitions include Rubicon Gallery Dublin; Lora Reynolds Gallery, Texas, USA; Galerie Guy Bärtschi Geneva, Switzerland and numerous group exhibitions in Europe and America. He has an upcoming exhibition at Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, USA in 2009 and his work is included in the permanent collection of The Irish Museum of Modern Art, as well as private collections in Europe and America.



Tom Molloy makes art about current events. He directly addresses contemporary geopolitical conditions in drawings, photographs, paper sculptures, and similarly “minor” mediums such as printed fabric or embroidery. Like so much of the news, his work revolves around the United States of America, its actions, and their effects in, and on, the world. And, like so much of the unfolding situation around the globe, especially, perhaps, where America is concerned, Molloy’s work operates according to the logic of symbols. This obsession in Molloy’s art with American symbols and Americas place in the world is particularly remarkable considering the fact that the artist is not American. He is Irish, living and working far from the events that his work engages, in a remote and rural part of County Clare, the westernmost edge of the westernmost edge of Europe. Yet news of the world penetrates even to that isolated spot, and Molloy receives his via television, newspapers, the internet, and word of mouth, just like the rest of us. That the art he creates revolves around America speaks not only of America’s hegemony in the cultural, economic, political, and military spheres, but also of America’s dominance in the realm of the imagination, even of those whom we might think should be insulated by location and nationality.
