Vauxhall Open

Vauxhall St. Peter s Heritage Centre, London

A celebration of visual artists living or working in the Lambeth area. The art event, stretching over a month, is a unique encounter across the arts. All the participants work in a mixture of media such as painting, sculpture, installation, sound work, film and video.

The Vauxhall Open is a celebration of visual artists living or working in the Lambeth area. The art event, stretching over a month, will take place in the magnificent surroundings of St Peter's Church in Vauxhall and is a unique encounter across the arts.
All the participants work in a mixture of media such as painting, sculpture, installation, sound work, film and video.
Also, during the exhibition there will be high profile club nights as well as dance, poetry and classical music events.

friday may 3 cinema & live music 7.30pm - midnight £3.00
This event features new and commissioned films and a programme of classical and modern classical music. The music, including pieces by composer Artyom Vassiliev will be performed by internationally acclaimed musicians Katja Sourikova, Kristina Blaumane and Maxim Rysanov recently featured in one of the Wigmore Hall's "Young Masters" concerts.

saturday may 11 The Siren Suite 9pm - 1am £5.00
The Siren Suite, Britain's only Classical/New Music night club hosts the launch party Hallelujah Fling! for Resonance 104.4 fm's wild new radio show "Mind The Gap - It's The Sound Storm". They promise a very special guest that has to be seen to be believed. Previous surprises included Jarvis Cocker of Pulp. (See press release attached for full line up).

friday may 17 theatricality ­ spoken word & performance evening 7.30pm - midnight £3.00
Writers, performance artists and actors include Alison Trower, Peter Karl Burgess, Johnny Harris, Sophie Woolley and Neil Howman.
Mitchell Anderson performs excerpts from his award winning one man show "Alone, lost & afraid".
Story telling & irreverent theatre from Sleeping Giant, and Eva Weaver presents Skeleton Woman.
We are excited to announce Courttia Newland ­ The rising star of Brit-lit and chronicler of inner city life' (Guardian), and recently named one of the Independent on Sunday's 20 best young British writers. He will be performing extracts from his work. Tunes for the evening provided by dj Martin Willis.

saturday may 18 live music and dance performance 7.30pm - midnight £3.00
An atmospheric evening of electronica, spacious soundscapes & sonic attack with live sets from :
Amp (space age recordings), 90° South (Ochre records) "haunting, beautiful & minimalist" & Jeffrey Reed [disastronaut.co.uk] Monad Dance Company ­ a merging of dance, sound / music, sculpture, light & video

The Electronic Church of Simian (Source records)
Purge your sins with a visit to the Electronic Church of Simian (Source Records) where your souls will be cleansed through live performances, images, short film presentations and vinyl.

friday may 31 closing night party 7.30pm - 2am £4.00
The Vauxhall Open will be brought to a close with a wealth of talent from a wide variety of acts including storytelling and performance poetry. Traditional Egyptian "Raqs Sharqi" dance, various acoustic performances and a special act on the lighter side from our Russian classical musicians. The music hots up with rap artist "badmanner" and his "SEF CREW" and culminates in a storming live set from inimitable rock n rollers "The Toes". Holding it all together on the night ­ the very fabulous Dougee Dimensional (Gentle People) in his role as DJ / entertainer.
