Taryn Takahashi and Hyo Myoung Kim
During the 2009 summer residency period at Gallery Primo Alonso, Taryn Takahashi and Hyo Myoung Kim invited people to submit their work songs - songs or music they listen to or sing while at work. There was no preconceived blueprint to make artworks during the residency.
Both artists spontaneously reacted to the submissions. Certain logic emerged naturally from these materials, which was then implemented for the quick execution in creating the various pieces in the exhibition.
The actual songs, their time frame, rhythm and titles, as well as the character of certain participants, the nature of their work and the evocativeness of certain music genres, all contributed and influenced the process of creation.
The result reveals the duo's interest in transformation across a variety of media and information exchange.
Their output also has a concurrent online presence at www.worksongworkshop.com. The online works, which will include downloadable pieces, will go live on the afternoon of the 3rd of September. The website will also reveal the work songs connected to the works at Gallery Primo Alonso as well as the works presented online.
Bio:
Taryn Takahashi and Hyo Myoung Kim utilise the inherent logic of the subject with intuitive interventions to produce works that are significantly removed from their origin although retaining and amplifying certain qualities from their source. An important aspect of their methodology is based on the analytical nature and consequent organic development of their ideas through dialogue.
