LOOKING FORWARD the exhibition follows an unparalleled video/radio
simulcast event that took place on May 5, 2002. Hundreds of New Yorkers
met on the pedestrian walkway of the Brooklyn Bridge and tuned into WFMU
to hear what the people in the clock tower had to say for the first and
only time. This highly visible public artwork was seen by millions of
New Yorkers and was featured in the NY Times and on CNN worldwide.
LOOKING FORWARD the exhibition opens on May 30th and will feature
photographs of the clock tower project taken by Aaron Diskin. For the
viewer, these photographs will recreate the experience of discovering
these giant images that peered out over the skyline in all directions.
This exhibition will also feature a video and sound installation of the
radio broadcast event on WFMU, which painted a provocative portrait of
New York through stories told by over one hundred New Yorkers. Also on
view will be photographs from the critically acclaimed production of So
Long Ago I Can't Remember-a divine comedy. This production, which was
inspired by Dante's The Divine Comedy, was an installation epic that led
the audience through the nine circles of hell, purgatory, and paradise.

Michael Counts, maverick visual artist, who with his company GAle GAtes
et al. has created exciting and controversial installations inhabited by
performers, have electrified New York audiences for the last six years.
Counts and his company have entertained and challenged theatergoers, art
lovers, music buffs and fans of shear spectacle with his
multidimensional works that take audiences places they have never been
before. The New York Times called Michael Counts, "A mad genius."
GAle GAtes et al. is a non-profit performance and visual art company
founded in 1995 by visual artist Michael Counts and performer/producer
Michelle Stern. Based in DUMBO at 37 Main Street, the company is
dedicated to creating a new dynamic that combines theater, visual art
and new music. Over the past five years the company has created five
original works that have received extensive international recognition.
GAle GAtes et al. is now widely recognized as one of the foremost
emerging arts organizations in New York.
