The Young Art Fair. Our fair, again, will take place parallel to the Art Basel. Within a very short time, the Liste with it's own unique profile, has been able to establish itself. It is the fair's task to introduce young, international galleries that are taking part in the spirit of the times, are showing new trends and are representing important young artists.

to the Art Basel. Within a very short

profile, has been able to establish
itself.
It is the fair's task to introduce young,
international galleries that are taking
part in the spirit of the times, are
showing new trends and are
representing important young artists.
We are pleased to offer these galleries a platform under favourable conditions,
that strengthens their voice in the international market. Most of the galleries have
existed for only a couple of years, but have already received a lot of attention
through their committed programs.
The visit to our fair has become a must for the art experts, museum people,
collectors and art lovers. Here is the possibility to make discoveries, contacts and
to meet young artists.
So, come to Basel - next time in June 2002 - and go through our fair with
curiosity and be on the lookout. We ensure that you will discover exciting artists
and sense the fresh spirit pulsing around you.
The different architectural situations of the former brewery allowed the galleries
this year flexible and individual presentation. Inside the building and on outdoor
terraces a restaurant and several bars were in operation.
Alongside the young art, the unique atmosphere of our house adds to a very
special experience.
LISTE 02 - The Young Art Fair: Laying the foundation for a successful art career
The LISTE has long established itself on the art market and is regarded as being the most important fair dedicated solely to the promotion of young art and young galleries. The LISTE earned its reputation as a platform for new discoveries, giving many artists and galleries a chance to exhibit internationally for the first time by offering favourable conditions, as well as by showing artists, who have never before exhibited in Switzerland.
During the last seven years, about 150 galleries worldwide have participated in the LISTE, laying a further foundation for their successful career. The reason for the comparably large amount of participating new and relatively unknown galleries lies in the consequent politics of the fair. On principle, only artists younger than forty years of age and galleries, which have existed for less than five years, are shown. Participation is also restricted to three or four years, during which time the gallery should be able to establish itself on the art market. The success of the LISTE can also be measured by the fact that about one third of the former par-ticipants have been admitted to the Art Basel.
Many of today's stars at international art events, such as the documenta or Biennale, were shown for the first time internationally at the LISTE. Many significant galleries could also promote their international suc-cess by exhibiting at the LISTE, such as "Air de Paris" and "Emmanuel Perrotin" Paris, "neugerriemschnei-der" and "Klosterfelde" Berlin, "Raum aktueller Kunst" Wien, "Nicolai Wallner" Copenhagen, "Stephen Friedman" and "The agency" London, "The Modern Institute" Glasgow, "Massimo de Carlo" and "Emi Fontana" Milan, "Peter Kilchmann" and "Walcheturm/Presenhuber" Zurich. Represented in this segment are also galleries from overseas, such as "Tomio Koyama" Tokyo, or the meanwhile renowned New York exhi-bitioners "CRG Art", "Casey Kaplan" and "David Zwirner". This success is due to the LISTE's worldwide network of first class advisers, always searching for new, interesting and promising galleries.
Again this year, a third of the forty-six galleries from fifteen countries will be exhibiting in Basel for the first time. A special mention goes to Slovenia and Mexico as they are exhibiting at the LISTE for the first time ever, each with one representative. This year's special guest, CAN, Centre d'Art Neuchâtel, presents work by young, international artists. The Kaskadenkondensator / exhibition room in the Warteck introduces their art "SuperMarket".
