Short film programme tours seven Dutch cities in March and April
The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, in co-operation with the
De Balie theatre in Amsterdam and the Plaza Futura theatre in Eindhoven,
will tour the Netherlands from March 18th to April 25th. The Festival,
which is celebrating its 50th birthday from April 29th to May 4th, 2004,
will present a programme of eight shorts in seven cities. "Last year, our
"Oberhausen on Tour" programmes travelled the Netherlands and were a big
success there. We wanted to continue this, bringing our short films to a
wider audience outside of the actual Festival," says Carsten Spicher, head
of the German Competition and the Oberhausen archive.

The films
Zdravi Ljudi Za Razonodu - The litany of happy people
Karpo Godina, Yugoslavia 1971, 15 minutes
Vojvodina is a flat region in Serbia, where different nationalities are
living together. In every settlement you can see from the colour of the
house which nationality its inhabitants are... The inhabitants are standing
in front of their coloured houses and we hear songs talking about endless
love between these different nations.-
Tango
Zbigniew Rybczynski, Poland, 1981, 8 minutes
A metaphorical film about human fate in which all people are moving
simultaneously but independently.-Rybczinski won the Academy Award for best
Animation short in 1982 for this film.
Foutaises
Jean-Pierre Jeunet, France 1989, 7 minutes
With ironical and cinematic means we are shown what a person likes or
dislikes.-In this short, Jean-Pierre Jeunet experiments with techniques he
later perfected in "Le destin fabuleux d'Amélie Poulain".
Taranci - Sparrows
Ernest Abdyjaparov, Kirgizistan 1995, 10 minutes
A man is walking across the field, his way is barred by the endless train.
Suddenly a wonderful stranger appears. A magnificent and dynamic
black-and-white montage.
Des majorettes dans l'espace - Majorettes in space
David Fourier, France 1996, 6 minutes
Dimitri, a Soviet Cosmonaut of Soyouz 27, likes majorettes. Catherine and
Laurent like making love. John Paul II. likes airports. Vincent likes boys.
A humorous approach to modern relationships and difficult topics such as AIDS.
Noski bol'sogo goroda - The socks of the big city)
Andrej Ushakov, Russia 2000, 14 minutes
This is a real story, that could happen to your own socks. A Russian
animation offering the typical combination of humour and melancholy.
Dream Work
Peter Tscherkassky, Austria 2001, 11 minutes
A woman goes to bed, falls asleep and starts dreaming. Her dream takes her
to a landscape of light and shadow, evoked in a way as can only be achieved
by traditional cinematography. With thanks to Man Ray.
Erè Mèla Mèla
Daniel Wiroth, France 2001, 6 minutes
The bodies lightly touch each other, the hands communicate, the glances
make love. A delicate poem for the others without whom we would be nothing.
A visual poem about the relationship between two individuals.
