Slamdance is also accepting entries to a new offshoot of its

Entering its eighth year, the Slamdance Film Festival is under
new directorship, with Kristy Byrd and Brent Clackson moving up from
management positions to co-directors, as President Peter Baxter focuses
attention on Slamdance Entertainment, a new joint venture between Atlantic
Streamline and the Slamdance Film Festival.
The new organization operates as
a separate entity from the American film festival while combining the
independent stature of the "Slamdance" trademark to expand the film festival
on a more global level with a commitment to the creatively alternative
filmmaker.
Entry forms and application information are available from the Slamdance
website at: http://www.slamdance.com or by calling the Slamdance office at
323 466 1786. Slamdance accepts film, video and digital work of all length,
genre and format.
The Slamdance Film Festival, which is billed as "by filmmakers, for
filmmakers," was started in 1995 by a group of writer/director/producers and
continues to be organized and programmed by active filmmakers. Now entering
its eighth year as a festival that runs simultaneous to the Sundance Film
Festival, Slamdance has established a unique reputation for premiering
independent films by first-time directors working with limited budgets.
Highlights from the 2001 Slamdance Film Festival in Park City included over
$50,000 in cash and prizes awarded to the winning films. Several films were
picked up for distribution and almost every film went on to play at other
international film festivals. Most recently, David Greenspan¹s film ³Bean
Cake² which premiered at Slamdance 2001 went on to win the Palme d¹Or for
Best Short Film at the Cannes Film Festival.
In addition to the festival itself and the On the Road events, Slamdance
also has an annual screenplay competition, a very active website
www.slamdance.com, the "$99 Special" short film production wing, and a
compilation DVD. Year-round sponsors, including the SCI FI Channel, Kodak,
and the Maryland Film Office help make these events possible.
Slamdance Entertainment is set to establish a new festival in Germany
designed to extend the Slamdance label internationally. An introductory
showcase of short and feature films will take place in Cologne on August
18th in association with the biggest music industry get-together in the
world, Popkomm. The aim of this venture is to create and develop a
counterpart festival to the annual Park City event by supporting new German
and other European filmmakers.
