To celebrate their second birthday Short Circuits, the short film and new
media event based in Huddersfield, are proud to announce the regional
premiere of "Daddy's Girl" directed by Irvine Allen, which won the Short
Film award at this years Cannes film festival.
Daddy's Girl will be screening alongside the premieres of two superb new
Kirklees films. Navdeep Kandola's funny and insightful "Open All Hours"
about Christmas in a corner shop in Mirfield, funded by Short Circuits
Commissions, and Three.Six.Five. a visually stunning film directed by Robert
Chiu, made with the residents of Fartown and Birkby in Huddersfield and
funded by Huddersfield Pride.
Since October 1999 Short Circuits has grown into the largest and longest
running event of its kind in the North, and regular events now take place in
Leeds and York as well as the original, Huddersfield based nights at the
Media Centre.
Over the last two years Short Circuits has brought short films from Iran,
Belgium, Australia, Korea and America to The Media Centre and shown
Oscar-winning films alongside new films by first-time Huddersfield film
makers.
As well as screening short films across Yorkshire, Short Circuits also
offers an innovative short film funding scheme giving grants of up to £2000
for film-makers, digital animators and music video directors. Films funded
by Short Circuits Commissions have been shown at film festivals across the
country, as well as in West End London cinemas. Anyone interested in
applying for a Short Circuits Commission should attend the screening at The
Media Centre to find out more.
As well as short films the event will feature music from DJ Brett Woodall
and live digital video mixes by Optic Alchemy and a chance to try out the
revolutionary Holopro display system and digital media works in the new
Medialounge.
Short Circuits is on Thursday 29th November from 8.00pm
Tickets cost £3/£2.
