Today it is Voluntary, Basic Search Procedure Workshop
This workshop will introduce proper search procedures for public spaces that
you can apply at your home, business, or institution.
Today it is Voluntary will specifically interrogate the intersections of public security, search models, the
political economy of space, the collection and cataloging of personal data,
the hierarchies of information (in relation to the consumer and the â
ranksâ of the security), the hard and soft sciences of security and the mitigating
role of education. This workshop will be presented in two components. On
the eve of the reception FS will facilitate a live interactive workshop where
viewers can participate. This workshop is totally voluntary and at anytime
people can refuse participation. For the remainder of the exhibition there
will be a hands-on, self-guided workshop inside the lobby.
Finishing School (FS) is a collective artist identity interested in expanding
dialog within the cultural economy. FS enlists tactical media to investigate
the many intersections between education models, critical theory, and covert
and common everyday activities. All FS projects attempt to demystify the
roles and distinctions between art and the viewer and redefine the viewer as
an active participant (student) engaged in cultural action. When applicable,
FS invites appropriate operatives representing a variety of professions to
participate in projects.
Opening Reception is June 15, 2002, 7 p.m. -9 p.m.
