Recent Acquisitions
The Museum of Modern Art's film collection now comprises more than 27,000 titles and, as of its 1996 opening, these moving-image treasures are stored at the state-of-the-art Celeste Bartos Film Preservation Center in Hamlin, Pennsylvania. This complex affords the Museum ample space and an ideal controlled environment in which to preserve essential pieces of film history, and provides its staff with the ability to plan confidently for the acquisition, cataloging, and care of future films. The 19 films in this series - classic and contemporary Hollywood features, independent works that explore social issues, foreign films that examine cultural values not unlike our own, and a few just-plain-funny movies- illustrate the enormous diversity of MoMA's collection. Organized by Anne Morra, Associate Curator, Department of Film.
