Five exhibitions
Mostyn, Llandudno
A selection of works by Irma Blank from the series Radical Writings produced in the 1980s and 1990s. The exhibitions of Amalia Pica brings together work that looks at communication, particularly the act of listening. The work of Sean Edwards examines the sculptural potential of the everyday. Focusing on how the past becomes present, Laura Reeves's work mines her own biography. Gallery 1 is the first group show of its kind.
Irma Blank
Breath Paintings
Irma Blank has been conducting research on language for almost half a century, testing linguistic conventions and constantly innovating ways of working with painting, drawing and book publishing.
This exhibition focuses on a selection of works from the series Radical Writings produced in the 1980s and 1990s.
In these works the artist links her breathing to the gesture of writing, repeating a single action: drawing a line corresponding to one single breath. The striking blue paintings on canvas open up a discussion on language and signs, and on the authority of the written word that is constantly challenged as a vehicle of power.
Irma Blank’s Breath Paintings is presented, along with Amalia Pica’s Switchboard, as the second in the ‘Conversation Series’ at MOSTYN.

Amalia Pica
Switchboard
Argentina-born artist Amalia Pica’s practice primarily explores her background; communal histories, myths, rites and traditions, as well as language and ways of communication. Her works include installation, photography, drawing and performance, with a specific focus on sculpture.
The exhibitions brings together work that looks at communication, particularly the act of listening and its ability to be both effective and also nuanced and fallible.
These themes, which have their basis in social interaction, will be reflected in the presentation of the work. Actions of touch and hearing are made equal and often as important as the viewer’s gaze.
Amalia Pica is presented, along with Irma Blank’s Breath Painting, as the second in the ‘Conversation Series’ at MOSTYN.

Sean Edwards
Drawn in Cursive (part three)
The work of Sean Edwards examines the sculptural potential of the everyday. While it responds to his engagement with the world at large, many of his pieces make use of remnants of previous activities as starting point and reflect time spent in the context of his studio.
His found or made objects, as well as his drawings, photographs and clippings, invite the response of the audience and undermine the idea of the exhibition space as a place solely for fully realised artworks.
Funded by Creative Wales Award from Arts Council of Wales, Drawn in Cursive is a touring exhibition which has three ‘stations’: Chapter in Cardiff, Netwerk in Aalst, Belgium and finally here at MOSTYN.

Gallery 1
Cylch / Circuit
Gallery 1 is the first group show of its kind; a celebration of the interests and values of a generation through representation of objects of individual relevance.
The exhibition is curated by young people, in collaboration with artist, Bedwyr Williams and MOSTYN Visual Arts Programme Curator, Adam Carr.
Circuit/Cylch is a four year national programme connecting 15-25 year olds to the arts in galleries and museums working in partnership with the youth and cultural sector

Laura Reeves
Gallery 6: Uprisings
Laura Reeves was born in 1987 and lives and works in Swansea. Reeves’ approach, in part, could be compared to that of a detective. An in-depth process of research – exploring origin, meaning and purpose – characterises her pieces. Focusing on the past, and how the past becomes present, her work mines her own biography, which is the focal point of her exhibition at MOSTYN.
This exhibition will be accompanied by a full colour booklet, including a text and interview with MOSTYN’s Visual Arts Programme Curator Adam Carr.
Gallery 6 and its associated programme ‘Uprisings’ gives the first solo exhibition to artists in a UK public institution and supports the production of new work.
