In 1997, the Festival of Women Creators of the Two Seas - the Mediterranean and the black Sea was held in Thessaloniki, as part of the festivities included in the program 'Cultural Capital of Europe - Thessaloniki, 1997'. The Festival will bring together women artists representing eight fields of female creativity: Architecture, Music, Cinema, Fine arts, Dance, Photography, Theater, Literature.
Aims.
To promote and actually undertake inter-cultural dialogue among women creators,
o assist the dissemination of the values of the culture of peace
to create a meeting place where differences and similarities will be brought together
to give women artists the opportunity to assert their creative personality at an European scale.
The Background of the Project.
In 1997, the Festival of Women Creators of the Two Seas - the Mediterranean and the black Sea was held in Thessaloniki, as part of the festivities included in the program 'Cultural Capital of Europe - Thessaloniki, 1997'.
The tremendous success of the Festival and the suggestions of the participants that similar happenings should be organized periodically, led to the decision to institutionalize the Festival as a triennial event.
UNESCO Center for Women and Peace in the Balkan Countries, together with UNESCO, European Union, the Mayor of Thessaloniki and the Association of Interbalkan Women’s Cooperation Societies are organizing the Second International Festival of Women Creators of the Two Seas - the Mediterranean and the Black Sea which will be held in Thessaloniki, on September 22-27, 2000.
The event is included by UNESCO among the fifteen most important festivities celebrating the New Millennium and is expected to bring a significant contribution to the program of the Year of Culture of Peace.
Target countries.
The Festival will bring together women artists from 30 countries of Europe, Asia and Africa. The following countries were invited to participate in the event :

The Project.
The Festival will bring together women artists representing eight fields of female creativity :

The approach to women’s artistic production will be global, geographically balanced (all countries will be equally represented) and respectful of multi-cultural variety.
The exhibition opening on September 22, at 6.00 p.m., in the Art Gallery
of the Society for Macedonian Studies- Thessaloniki. The exhibition will
