Static/Museum will offer an overview and celebration of the many and varied types of electronic musical technologies and their applications, exploiting the old as well as the new. From crinkled hissy tape loops set in motion on creaking second hand reel to reels, to nifty ethereal lap top glitch manoeuvres, to primitive turntable/vinyl manipulations unleashing an avalanche of hiss and crackle, to rusty analogue synthesisers bleeping and chugging through a sea of patch cables.

Static/Museum will offer an overview and celebration of the many and
varied types of electronic musical technologies and their
applications, exploiting the old as well as the new. From crinkled
hissy tape loops set in motion on creaking second hand reel to reels,
to nifty ethereal lap top glitch manoeuvres, to primitive
turntable/vinyl manipulations unleashing an avalanche of hiss and
crackle, to rusty analogue synthesisers bleeping
and chugging through a sea of patch cables.
The line-up performing in Static/Museum will include:
Pimmon (Paul Gough) - Currently one of Australia's most acclaimed and
successful exponents in the field of experimental sound composition
Pimmon often finds minute audio artefacts, or glitches, within the
digital realm and re-works them into new and remarkably musical forms.
Pimmon's new CD Assembler is available now on Fallt.
Kazumichi Grime - Kazumichi Grime has constructed his own computer
software interface that is, essentially, a self-generating musical
system. Recording his work onto CD-ROM format he allows the
listener/user to select or devise (within limits) their own
composition.
The Loop Orchestra - Continuing their association with Artspace in the
promotion of Australian sound art, The Loop Orchestra has, in various
forms, been in operation since 1982. They construct powerful,
evocative works solely by means of prepared tape loops played on
archaic tape recorders in various states of repair. The current line
up consists of John Blades, Richard Fielding and Patrick Gibson. As
part of Static/Museum, they will present a new work
entitled "Phantom Pregnancy".
The Loop Orchestra's CD "The Analogue Years" is available through
Endless Recordings.
Size - (Jason Gee + Garry Bradbury) - Size, both ex-members of seminal
Australian outfit Severed Heads, will present new material showcasing
their extensive battery of idiosyncratic analogue equipment; a
precarious, potentially diabolical system, often balanced on the
brink of total collapse. Much frantic knob twiddling and controlled
mayhem is to be expected.
Size's new CD "Actual Size" is available through Zonar.
Sanity Clause (Ian Andrews + Garry Bradbury) - A turntable monstrosity
assembled by Ian Andrews and Garry Bradbury which will attempt to
extract something of value from the vast stagnant heap of vinyl left
behind by the 20th century's musical consumer culture. Part salvage
operation, this performance will self-destruct.
Ian Andrews - Ian Andrews is a Sydney-based sound, video and film
artist who has been practising since 1980. He will present various
film loops and videos at Static/Museum.
