The international art fair for young, contemporary art with 64 galleries from 19 countries. Liste remains committed to its very strict selection policy - showing forward-looking and trend-setting positions by younger artists under 40. Special guest the museum Haus Konstruktiv of Zurich, for the second time the redtoo Art Prize will be awarded to the most outstanding newcomer gallery and the art prize Nationale Suisse will be awared for the eighth time. The Performance Project is being curated for the first time by Maja Wismer.
Following our successful anniversary edition (15 years), LISTE 16 - The Young Art Fair will open its doors in Basel from June 14 - June 19, 2011, and will once again be the meeting place for young, contemporary art!
From among 350 applicants our jury of experts - consisting of experts from the museum world - chose 64 galleries from 19 countries. We will be introducing 10 galleries for the first time in Basel and 8 galleries will be returning to LISTE after successful Statements at Art Basel. The most interesting galleries of the younger generation will be represented at LISTE and will bring a high caliber selection of young, contemporary art to Basel.
As our special guest, we will be hosting the museum Haus Konstruktiv of Zurich. For the second time, the redtoo Art Prize will be awarded to the most outstanding newcomer gallery and the art prize Nationale Suisse will be awared for the eighth time. The Performance Project is being curated for the first time by Maja Wismer.
Since its inception in 1996, LISTE has set about the task of introducing exclusively galleries of a new generation that are involved in the zeitgeist and represent important young artists. In this way, LISTE has made a consequential and important contribution to the promotion of young artists and young galleries. The number of galleries, 64, has intentionally been kept low - only the most important newer galleries from across the globe - and that has helped to create LISTE’s great success.
Over the last several years, a number of LISTE’s galleries have been able to make the leap repeatedly to Statements or Feature at Art Basel but, due to gallery age, have been unable to secure for themselves a permanent space at the fair. LISTE has responded to this situation by adjusting its acceptance policy so that important former exhibitors at LISTE are still able to present at our fair. As we continue to build on its successful policy, LISTE remains committed to its very strict selection policy - showing forward-looking and trend-setting positions by younger artists under 40.

Several artists of LISTE 16, such as Ida Ekblad (Karma International), Giorgio Andreotta Calò (Wilfried Lentz), Shannon Ebner (kaufmann repetto and Wallspace) or Navid Nuur (Plan B and Martin van Zomeren), will also be represented at this year’s Biennale in Venice.
LISTE Performance Project
The Performance Project has taken place at LISTE during the fair since 2003. The concept and goal of this project are to carry out an ambitious program with emerging, highly promising artists. For the 16th edition of LISTE - The Young Art Fair, another edition of the Performance Project with international artists - now curated by Maja Wismer (Basel and Stockholm) - will be presented.
This year’s program will open with a live dance performance by the young American artist Matthew Lutz-Kinoy, with musician Sam Long. On Tuesday, Lily Reynaud Dewar (FR) will show a new performance at LISTE. In addition, performances will be shown by Ruth Buchanan (NZ), Bonny Poon (CA), Stéphane Querrec (FR), Jeanne-Salomé Rochat (CH) und Udio (DE).
LISTE Special Guests
This year, the museum Haus Konstruktiv Zurich under the direction of Dorothea Strauss will appear as a guest at LISTE. The presentation ‘Coup De Cœur’ will bring together works by Elias Crespin, Natalia Stachon, Tobias Madison and Mai-Thu Perret.

Kaskadenkondensator Basel will present the curator’s collective ‘the forever ending story’, with a solo presentation by the painter Christian Rothmaler as well as ‘collectif inouite’, which, in its role as art mascot, will organize walks and performance various actions.
Art Prizes
For the 8th time, Nationale Suisse will present its much-coveted art prize. This prize is open to graduates of Swiss art colleges majoring in “visual art and media art”. The prize includes a monetary award of 15,000 CHF and a solo presentation at LISTE. This year’s award goes to Josse Bailly, a graduate of the Haute Ecole d’Art et de Design Geneva.
The redtoo Art Prize will be awarded for the second time. The redtoo Art Prize is open to galleries presenting for the first time at LISTE. The winning gallery is selected by an international jury of experts. The prize includes payment of the gallery’s stand costs and the purchase of a work of art.
LISTE’s Main Sponsor for 15 Years
We will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of our main sponsor! Since 1997, LISTE’s second year of existence,
E. Gutzwiller & Cie Banquiers, Basel has been the fair’s main sponsor. Through their long-standing sponsorship, they have helped our young galleries to be actively involved in Basel’s art fair week at very reasonable terms and conditions. We are very happy to have such a highly competent, generous and committed partner. Over these last 15 years, a valuable relationship and friendship has grown, which LISTE’s management hopes never to loose.
Documentary LISTE – The Young Art Fair and the Werkraum Warteck pp
We are also very pleased to present the documentary film ‘LISTE - The Young Art Fair in Basel and the Werkraum Warteck pp’ by film-maker Edith Jud. The film recounts the story of the Werkraum Warteck and LISTE and their very special 15-year shared history. The film, which lasts 1 hour and 10 minutes, will be shown during the entire week of the fair. The DVD and further information regarding the screening are available at the fair office.
