Mirko Borsche

Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich

'Unplugged' offers the viewer an unusual new perspective of the work and creative approach of a graphic designer. For this exhibition Borsche reduces the visual language of his original works to hand-painted posters in the size 70 x 100 cm.

comunicato stampa

The exhibition is offering the viewer an unusual new perspective of the work and creative approach of a graphic designer: In 2007, graphic designer Mirko Borsche (born 1971 in Tegernsee) opened his own studio in Munich, Bureau Mirko Borsche, whose works have since won countless international awards.

For his exhibition 'unplugged' Mirko Borsche reduces the visual language of his original works to hand-painted posters in the size 70 x 100 cm. The abstraction of the original design ideas using black brushstrokes on a light grey background and the identical format used both for the composition of large posters but also magazine covers or CD sleeves mean a radical reinterpretation of the 'poster' as a design task and as an element to be exhibited in a museum.

Bureau Mirko Borsche works for art institutions and companies, among others in the realms of editorial design, book design, poster design, typography, websites and corporate graphics, for Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks (Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra) and Gomma, the independent music label, for Munich’s subcultural scene and Hamburg’s Thalia Theater, the MartA Herford museum and Die Neue Sammlung – The International Design Museum Munich, Bayerische Staatsoper (Bavarian State Opera), Berlin’s haute couturier Kostas Murkudis, ZEITmagazin and the alternative monthly Super Paper.

An exhibition of Die Neue Sammlung – The International Design Museum Munich – in cooperation with Bureau Mirko Borsche. Kindly supported by Atelier Steffen Kehrle, Munich.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a portfolio containing all exhibits in the format 297 mm x 210 mm. With essays by Christoph Amend – editor-in-chief ZEITmagazin – and Florian Hufnagl – Director of Die Neue Sammlung. Print run: 100 copies. 74 loose sheets, hand printed on the risograph. Handmade cover, screen printed. Design: Mirko Borsche.
