Be More Like Me

Be More Like Me is comprised of nine artists who met by accident over a period of three years.

Drawing upon their individual experience, situation and style they have created a challenging show, rich in subject, content and aesthetic beauty.

Tim Griffin, Cordelia Underhill and Veronica Seifert manipulate and cajole the body into new positions and possibility. Limbs, torsos and flesh made of household materials and manufactured products are strung together in a shifting edit of human activity. Location in Steve Dixon and Matt Greens work is connected to the interaction with the work as functioning objects. This is referenced through form, light and use of sound. Sophia Hayes substitutes the human with the animal. Through re-animation and nurturing the role of empathy with life itself is evoked while outdoor location underlines the intent of this work. Chris Lawley and Ben Will also explore the broader location of landscape. This references the real but ultimately escapes to fantasy through material and memory, the horizon and map. The viewer is immersed in a place that is half remembered and half dreamt.

In short, this exhibition cuts the mustard and if you can only make it to one show this year, make sure it's this one. Boasting an inspired choice for both the eye and mind to feast upon, there really is something for everyone; so whether engaged with the downright absurdity of Griffins 'Suck Me, Blow Me Machine' or the pure sensuality of Lawleys eroticised PVC painting, you will not be disappointed.
