A group exhibition of built and speculative projects by ten young international architectural studios. The show is framed around two competing tendencies - practices rooted in representation and metaphor and those founded on material systems and organizations. The works featured in the show investigate the use of surface as a site for expression, from the space of the figurative and featured, to a place of coded interface.

Sign as Surface is a group exhibition of built and speculative projects by
ten young international architectural studios. The show is framed around
two competing tendencies - practices rooted in representation and metaphor
and those founded on material systems and organizations. The works
featured in the show investigate the use of surface as a site for
expression, from the space of the figurative and featured, to a place of
coded interface.
Sign as Surface is made possible, in part, by contributions from Étant
donnés: the French-American Fund for Contemporary Art and the Consulate
General of the Netherlands in New York. In-kind services are provided by
ABC Printing, Bestype Imaging, New York, and Z-Corporation.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a color catalogue designed by FDT
Design of NYC to be launched at the showx{2019}s close in mid-October. The
