The airplane as a means as a part of our daily life: the primordial dream of man has become our reality, but contradictory as all our realities. It symbolizes our means to travel far, to move quickly by entering in contact with different places, and by putting us in front of new dimensions.

The Silver Squadron

Curated by Dietgard Grimmer

Hypothetical installation of Public Art at the entrance of the Traklhaus Gallery.
JET FIGHTER (200x180x60 cm), carved in wood, varnished in chrome, suspended 4 meters from earth + SIMULATIONS and TESTS.

The airplane as a means as a part of our daily life: the primordial dream of man has become our reality, but contradictory as all our realities. It symbolizes our means to travel far, to move quickly by entering in contact with different places, and by putting us in front of new dimensions.

At the same time it is also needed to keep others out: the first fighter planes were used by Italy in the war against Lybia. The airplane is thus seen as the symbol of the moment our society is living, suspended between a sure and open identity, so rich in technology and discoveries and its opposition against the outside manifested through little gestures or great wars.

This multiple reading is amplified by the decontextualization and by the contrast with the environment in which the airplane is inserted, as much as by the silver on the surface of the sculpture, made precious as an homage to the functionality of this technological instrument, but strident in relation to its negative use.

Upon the occasion of the celebration of the gallery's 30 years, underlined is the fact of how art has not detached itself from reality, but has been able to enter our daily lives through an intervention of Public Art. Intervention which does not invade the urban texture, but aims to make people think in a constructive way on our complex historical moment.
