The Global Seed Vault, a secure seed bank on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen,
and its relationship with large-scale corporations, governments and NGOs are at the
very heart of the events depicted by Siekmann in his specifically developed
pictograms. These pictograms, which are organized into larger panels as well as
being embedded in a kinetic sculpture, suggest to what extent the state and private
enterprises interfere with communal natural resources.
In the Stomach of the Predators developed out of a collaboration with Alice
Creischer, which was shown last year at the Biennale Regard Benin, Cotonou, Bergen
Assembly, Bergen, and the Istanbul Biennale, Istanbul. Coinciding with Siekmann´s
show, Alice Creischer will present her own exhibition at KOW, Berlin.
Andreas Siekmann´s works have been shown at numerous exhibitions, e.g. at Kunsthaus
Bregenz, Bregenz (2013); Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach (2012); Museum Ludwig,
Cologne (2012); MACBA, Barcelona (2009), documenta XI (2002) and XII (2007), Kassel;
Skulptur Projekte Münster 07, Muenster (2007); Haus der Kunst, Munich (2005); 50th
Venice Biennale, Venice (2003); Portikus, Frankfurt/Main (1999).
