With a rich program of exhibitions, featuring numerous openings, lectures, discussions, performances, screenings, and other special events, the third edition will round out the week. The opening celebration starting at 7pm at Akademie der Kunste, together with the opening of the exhibition 'Vertigo of Reality'.
The third Berlin Art Week will be held this year from 16–21 September 2014. For six days, art lovers and connoisseurs from all over the world will gather in the art capital Berlin to discover current developments in contemporary art and to share experiences and ideas.
The art fairs abc – art berlin contemporary and Positions Berlin will be presenting both young and established galleries, showing the work of artists from around the world. With a rich program of exhibitions, featuring numerous openings, lectures, discussions, performances, screenings, and other special events, Berlin Art Week’s partners, the city’s museums and other art institutions, will round out the week.
Once again this year, an expert jury will be inviting additional project partners, such as project spaces and artist initiatives, with a convincingly strong program to take part in Berlin Art Week, reflecting the city’s vibrancy as a site of art production on both a national and an international scale.
Berlin Art Week is pleased to have the international conference Artfi “The Fine Art & Finance Conference” in Berlin for the first time.
The Art Week will kick off with an opening celebration on Tuesday, 16 September.
A combi-ticket will provide admission to all familiar exhibition sites and will be available in advanced sales as an online ticket at our website or at visitBerlin.

Berlin, 15 September 2014. Tomorrow, Berlin Art Week kicks off with an opening celebration starting at 7 pm at Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg 10 together with the opening of the exhibition “Schwindel der Wirklichkeit / Vertigo of Reality”. Speakers at the opening are Tim Renner, State Secretary for Cultural Affairs, Moritz van Dülmen, CEO of Kulturprojekte Berlin, Klaus Staeck, President of Akademie der Künste as well as the curators of the exhibition Jutta Brückner, Wulf Herzogenrath, Johannes Odenthal and Manos Tsangaris.
The welcome speeches will be followed by the opening of the exhibition sites: Closed Circuit Installations, Mirror Works, Game Art and Performances will focus on the visitors perception. Works by 39 artists are on view: Marina Abramović, Alexander Bruce, Peter Campus, Thomas Demand, Olafur Eliasson, Valie Export, Christian Falsnaes, Harun Farocki, Hamish Fulton, Jochen Gerz, gold extra, Dan Graham, Magdalena Jetelová, Bjørn Melhus, Bruce Nauman, Julian Oliver/Danja Vasiliev, Trevor Paglen, Nam June Paik, Tino Sehgal and Thomas Wrede amongst others.
Concerts by the bands HUNGER, BAR, and DENA as well as Midi Piano concerts in the “Metabolic Office for the Repair of Reality” will take place at once. As a tribute to the artist Harun Farocki there will be a screening at 8 pm. A Performance by Christian Falsnaes will involve visitors on from 10 pm. DJ-Sets with Chris Zippel and Britta mThie will round out the evenings programme. The event is public, admission is free.
