This summer Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will be showing ten early works by Willen Oorebeek (Pernis 1953) from the museum’s own collection. The artist’s work is based on commercial printing. He combines, isolates and repeats images from the endless stream generated by the mass media. This gives them a status in their own right, whereas in a commercial environment they are subservient to the product.
Oorebeek’s works will be combined with other work in the museum’s collection by such artists as Marchel Duchamp and Gerhard Richter. These works of art resonate with Oorebeek’s oeuvre at different levels.
Recent Acquisition for the City of Rotterdam
Oorebeek made the artwork ‘The Individual Parallel – Bilderberg Utopia’ for the Bilderberg Park Hotel in 2014. The work is a grid of white dots on the hotel’s grey facade.
