Perpetual Canon

With an extensive installation in the historical cupola hall and a presentation of small objects and works on paper the Württembergische Kunstverein will be the first institution to present a solo-show of Cornelia Parker's (* 1956 in Cheshire) work in Germany.

Parker's art work includes installations, sculptures, objects, slide-projections and photography - conceptual art with a specific aesthetic appeal and a strong brisance due to her ironical and critical understanding of perception and representation. Some of her best-known works are "Thirty Pieces of Silver" (1988/89), an installation of steamrollered silver ware and musical instruments suspended from the ceiling, "Shared Fate" (1998) - a piece consisting of different objects that were exposed to the same fate, having been decapitated by the same guillotine as Marie Antoinette. And last but not least "Cold Dark Matter" (2002), a space installation consisting of the remains of a Baptist church that was struck by lighting. In this work Parker's long-term investigation of matter and materials, their characteristics, transformation and dissolution achieved a new climax.

Nominated for the Turner-Prize in 1998 Cornelia Parker was granted a solo-show a the Serpentine Gallery in London. Ever since then her work has been exhibited in numerous international institutions, like the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston (2000) or the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna, Turin (2001).
