Los Angeles League of Photographers Group Exhibit

Metro Gallery is proud to introduce the opening of “Everyday LA," a group photography exhibit presented by twenty members of the Los Angeles League of Photographers (LALOP). An opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and will display over one hundred photographs exploring different perspectives of Los Angeles structures, people, communities, lifestyle and culture. The exhibit will run from January 14, 2006 - February 18, 2006.

Deborah Arlook, President of the Los Angeles League of Photographers said, “The Los Angeles League of Photographers is a mix of people as diverse as its neighborhoods. ‘Everyday LA’ represents the individuality of each photograph’s perspective through the mind’s eye and the camera’s lens." For decades, the "City of Angels" has been a dream, a destination, a desire. This exhibit is not about the physical boundaries of the city but of the illusion of Los Angeles. The exhibit chronicles the photographers' fascination and exploration of Los Angeles culture." Included is imagery depicting daily life in downtown, festivals, desolate parking structures, industrial bridges, water parks, the rituals of Chinatown to name just a few.

“We are much honored to have such a talented group of photographers present their work at Metro Gallery," says co-owner David Freire. “While the visual elements of the photographs are diverse, there is a common set of interests at the core of each body of work." LALOP strives for a contemporary examination of the lush fantasy of Hollywood while honoring the history of the New York Photo League, an organization started in the l930's dedicated to social photography in the United States.

The exhibit will feature twenty photographers: Francisco Arcaute, Deborah Arlook, Sara Jane Boyers, Bruce Brown, Larry Brownstein, Cindy Bendat, Martin Cox, Martin Elkort, Mathieu Grandjean, Jonathan Hollingsworth, Frank Jackson, Patrick Kelly, John Matkowsky, Ann Mitchell, Jim Payne, Christine Pellegrino, Jose Rivera, David Schulman, Don Schwartz, and David Stork.

About LALOP
Los Angeles League of Photographers (LALOP) was formed in 2002 by a group of photographer friends with the intent of meeting to discuss all aspects of photography; to inspire and learn from each other. Based loosely on the New York Photo League of the 30s - 50s, they incorporate the notions of excellence in the craft of photo based image making. LALOP's objective is to share their perception of photography's essential social, political and aesthetic values with the wider public.
