comunicato stampa

Sometimes we should take time out to readjust our marks, start looking at things from a different position, go back on our steps, take a step backwards in order to better understand what is happening in the present, just stopping for a second so as to be able to take two better steps forwards.

We frequently lose our points of reference, which is a little destabilizing, unsettling and often troublesome for our personal and collective identity. It is essential to continually question yourself.

Sometimes, it is enough just to look at what has been done over the past few years and is continuing with force and relevance in order to centre our vision and apprehend the near future. We should always understand the diverse artistic research in our times and anticipate the main preoccupations of tomorrow.

This year’s programme will try to find parallels between the artistic research carried out by artists of different generations. On the one hand, artists whose work is enough in itself to question us and who have developed over a certain time, a theoretical position and a continuity based on reflection, and, on the other hand, a younger brand of artist.

The public can take an intellectual meander passing back and forth between a fairly recent topic and a more or less distant past in the field of contemporary creation, learn how to find its reference marks and experiment with them.

Michel Ritter, director of the Centre culturel suisse de Paris

IAN ANULL
Ian Anull was born in 1948 in Sempach in the canton of Lucerne (Switzerland). He now lives between Berlin and Zurich.

The Centre culturel suisse is organising the first large-scale exhibition of Ian Anull’s work in France, showing paintings, videos, watercolours and installations spanning a period from the end of the 70s to the present.

“Ian Anull is an artist who has for a long time been part of the world known as the subculture; turning up here and there, he has always steered clear of any sort of established order, whether bureaucratic or artistic" (Bernhard Burgi in the Ian Anull catalogue, representation national Swiss during the 21st International Biennal of Sao Paulo, 1991)
