The third part of the Aller/Retour event continues the topic developed throughout 2006: the research of references between artists of different generations in order to re-evaluate our reference marks and experiment with them in the different fields of contemporary creation: visual and performance arts, literature and film. Main exhibition by Roman Signer: his "action sculptures", using simple materials in daily use, are full of humour and the absurd and create a sort of action story or philosophical paradigm on the dynamic mechanism of life. Aller/Retour 3
The third part of the Aller/Retour event continues the topic developed throughout 2006: the research of references between artists of different generations in order to re-evaluate our reference marks and experiment with them in the different fields of contemporary creation: visual and performance arts, literature and film.
It also tries to increase public awareness of the development, origins, preoccupations and influences. Art is in itself a continuity and its research is in constant evolution.
Centred around the main exhibition of work by Roman Signer, we have invited other important personalities like Daniel Schmid, Rudy Burckhardt, Meret Oppenheim, Arnold Kubler, Noemi Lapzeson, Ire'ne Schweizer, Daniel Humair and Richard Dindo who through their work continue to influence and nourish the present generation.

EXHIBITION

The Centre culturel suisse is organising the first personal exhibition of work by ROMAN SIGNER in Paris. Born in 1938 in Appenzell and now living in Saint-Gall, the artist represented Switzerland at the 48th Venice Biennale and is best known for his interventions created through actions and performances that use physical phenomena like wind, falling materials or the force of river currents. These often fleeting and sometimes explosive works, in which the artist plays an integral part, redefine the parameters of time and space in the field of sculpture. His “action sculptures", using simple materials in daily use, are full of humour and the absurd and create a sort of action story or philosophical paradigm on the dynamic mechanism of life.

JIRO NAKAYAMA, installations /10.09 - 08.10

Roman Signer particularly wanted to invite the Japanese artist Jiro Nakayama (born in 1961 in Tokyo and now living and working in Paris) who had previously asked him to take part in an exhibition in 2005 at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Rouen. Jiro Nakayama comes from a scientific background and creates simple and minimalist devices in order to study the way we perceive reality. This analysis often operates through natural or simple technological elements that are sometimes even invisible like the background noise of radio waves, the weather, light, the density of fresh or sea water and dust.
FLORIAN BACH, installations /12.10 - 12.11

Born in 1975, Florian Bach lives and works in Geneva and Berlin. His work develops two distinct attitudes: on the one hand, he creates installations “in situ" that relate to their surroundings and incite reading and he is also interested in installations and objects that are “out of context". His work comes from a reflection on politics and is largely made up of social demonstrations: boundaries, physical and mental limits, identity, exclusion, marginality and insecurity.
Alongside the exhibition, the Rendez-Vous du Jeudi Soir and La Se'ance du Dimanche will pick up the same principle of Aller/Retour in the different disciplines presented.
