by Paul Amenta at Marcello Marvelli Gallery. Drawing from his childhood memories, Paul Amenta will show a sculptural installation of the yard of the house where he spent the first years of his life. The sculpture will consist of two architectural models - each the mirror image of the other - made of layers of cardboard. Although representing a very personal and intimate part of his childhood, these models acquire an abstract and detached quality as if they were models for a town-planning project.
Marcello Marvelli Fine Arts is pleased to present Superstructure, the first
solo exhibition by young artist Paul Amenta.
Drawing from his childhood memories, Paul Amenta will show a sculptural
installation of the yard of the house where he spent the first years of his
life. The sculpture will consist of two architectural models - each the
mirror image of the other - made of layers of cardboard. Although
representing a very personal and intimate part of his childhood, these
models acquire an abstract and detached quality as if they were models for a
town-planning project.
It is in the tension between childhood memories and their abstract, almost
dispassionate rendition and between the simplicity of the material and its
structural complexity that lies the fascination of Amenta¹s installation.
A recent graduate from the School of Visual Art, Paul Amenta has shown his
sculptures and installations - each time surprising for their freshness and
inventiveness - in several group shows in New York.
Opening Reception: Friday, April 27, 6 - 8 p.m.
Marcello Marvelli Gallery, 526 West 26 Street, #603, New York
