AFTER NEW YORK

JHB Civic Gallery, Braamfontein

comunicato stampa

The JHB Civic Gallery is delighted to be hosting the first comprehensive exhibition of work by Fellows of the Ampersand Foundation.

The Ampersand Foundation is a non-profit, equal opportunity Trust promoting the fine arts in South Africa and rewarding excellence in the arts by granting awards to Fellows, enabling them to spend time in the United States in the furtherance of their broader education. In return the experience is expected to contribute to the community at large.

An apartment has been set up in New York as part of the award. New York was considered to be the most desirable location by most artists for the study of and exposure to modern art, including study & research opportunities. Grants have been made to South African artists to further broaden their horizons with education, an opportunity to travel, work & live in New York or just get a larger perspective on the art world.

The fellows include Abrie Fourie, Alex Trapani, Andras Borocz, Antoinette Murdoch, Anton Momberg, Christine Dixie, David Paton, Diane Victor, Giovana Stone, Gordon Froud, Giulio Tambellini, Hentie V D Merwe, Ian Waldeck, Kim Lieberman, Linda Sihlali, Marlaine Tosoni, Mthunzi Ndimande, Paul Emmanuel, Robbin Silverberg, Simon Stone, Sonja Strafella, Susan Woolf & Willem Boshoff

Jack Ginsburg, a South African Trustee of the Ampersand Foundation, will open the exhibition.

This exhibition showcases a varied selection of the work of these artists, made after their return from New York.
