John Vincent, (classe 1975) che con CUTS sarà il protagonista della prossima mostra personale alla Galleria d’Arte Fondazione Patrizio Patelli da sabato 5 maggio a sabato 23 giugno è un giovane artista britannico che nella sua produzione spazia con abilità e competenza dalla pittura alla foto e alle produzioni video. I suoi talenti creativi multimediali si basano su di una solida formazione accademica, un MA in Fine Art alla University of East London a un BA nello stesso campo alla Midlesex University.

“Nelle mie opere pittoriche, dichiara l'artista , cerco di creare atmosfere plastiche partendo da scene fisse e reali. I personaggi interreagiscono con oggetti inanimati all’interno del quadro” Sovente i suoi dipinti sono generati dall’utilizzazione di tecniche fotografiche che trasposte in arte visiva creano un interessante stile ipperealistico dove il reale si fonde nell’immaginario. La vernice della personale di John Vincent si terrà sabato 5 maggio alle ore 18.30. L’artista britannico verrà presentato dal Prof. Augusto Orsi.

Artist's Statement

In my work I attempt to generate an atmosphere through scene setting. Part of this often involves the concealment of identities as the faces are rarely revealed but is also achieved by situating figures related or in opposition to inanimate objects within the frame. The paintings allude to events beyond the canvas, creating a depth and intensifying the atmosphere generated by what is seen and what is not - a contribution to the work made by the viewers own imagination.

As my work has progressed I have extended the idea of scene setting to incorporate elements of historical events in both painting and installation. My most recent painting exhibition was based on the premise that the painter Walter Sickert was the infamous killer Jack The Ripper. The paintings were a mixture of ideas. Looking at Sickerts work and his own interest in photography, other associated images of the time, crime scene photography, combining this with the accusations to form a satirical painterly response to the 'evidence'. My interest in the horror genre brought me to the subject and, paralleled by a change in my painting technique, could be seen as a metaphor for the dismembering of photography for the purposes of painting. A similar situation occurs with the accompanying video. Both sort to a create the fantasy of time travel by trying to connect the fragments of the past with the present and trying to alter it.

My painting currently relies very much on photography which I have started exhibiting in its own right, however I find that the problem solving aspect of painting still holds my interest including finding ways to integrate subjects that fall within historical and political themes to express ideas that I see as r
