Siobhan Hapaska's sculptures and video work are like the artifacts of dreams; hybrids, born of various accumulated objects and ideas. Disparate forms, images, textures, and sounds are juxtaposed to an elusively enigmatic, yet coherent, end. Hapaska addresses issues of atmosphere and dissonance. The hyperreal and the abstract coexist, working off of each, making each other more relevant.

Disparate forms, images, textures, and sounds are juxtaposed to an elusively enigmatic, yet coherent, end. Hapaska addresses issues of atmosphere and dissonance. The hyperreal and the abstract coexist, working off of each, making each other more relevant. In Hapaska's work, time becomes an element to manipulate, and the movement (physical, mental or spiritual) through time and space become issues of concern for investigation. But also issues of history, faith, nostalgia and desire are incorporated into the work.
Tanya Bonakdar Gallery's second exhibition with Hapaska will include aspects of sculpture, video and installation. Hapaska represents Ireland at the 49th Venice Biennale, Irish Pavillion, Venice. Recent group shows include All Terrain: An Exploration of Landscape and Place, Contemporary Art Center of Virginia and The Deste Foundation & The British Council, "Artifice," Athens.
