Sculpture Exhibition of Timothy Chan Kwok Cheong.
As Hong Kong enters the 21st
century, we witness
advancements being made in
communications and science
technology, Hong Kong's
modern art scene is also revealing a new era.
Hong Kong young artists are displaying their
personal visions to meet the new challenges of
the millennium.
One of these promising local artists, Timothy
Chan Kwok Cheong, will organize his solo
exhibition from 11-17, May 2000 at the
Exhibition Gallery, Tsuen Wan Tow Hall and from
19 - 26 May at the Exhibition Gallery, Shatin
Town Hall in conjunction with the Leisure and
Cultural Services Department's Best of Visual
Arts scheme.
Entitled The Key of Millennium, this exhibition
compiles key works in the exploration and
journey of Timothy Chan over the past ten years.
According to a research report of the Stanford
University, for most people, 89 percent of
knowledge comes from visual experiences while
the rest comes from audio experience. The
exhibition aims not only to merge visual and
audio arts, but also to enhance the sensory
ability of the audience to enjoy artistic
expressions to the fullest. One of Timothy's
works to be exhibited, is a unique sculptural
piano. Piano performances using this unique
sculptural piano will be arranged.
As an artist of the Artist in Residence
programme, organized by the Arts Center and
funded by the Arts Development Council,
Timothy Chan also finds that there is an urgent
need to promote art education in Hong Kong.
Hence, guided tours have also been organized
for schools and other organizations during the
exhibition.
It is hope that the whole event is not only a
sharing of the artist's works but it will also
promote a better understanding of arts to the
general public and will also benefit many
students.
