Artists, mathematicians, physicists, and military men construct objects of art under the guidance of Alexander Ponomarev. Feedbacks is a multi-system art installation. Its central part is a multi-seat bicycle, which has fifteen seats and fifteen handle bars. The bicycle has a drive connection, and its treadles generate electric signal. It is connected structurally and technologically to the peripheral parts, which represent various ideological elements, such as Tower, Central Control Panel, Current Events, Kursk, etc.
Curated by Alexander Ponomarev and Maria Naimushina
Vast space, once a single entity, consists of wreckages. Damaged communication, broken connections… Friendship and love turn into hostility.
Shared seas and lullabies, friends, brothers, and sisters have become foreign. Letters, distant journeys, and embraces turn into memory dust.
Large and small countries… New geography creates new routes and new walls. Moscow is still a multinational city.
Internet blows up new borders. New goals demand growth and speed. Information technologies alter the space, and build new connections. No more borders, no more need to wait, Space becomes vast again – it embraces the whole world. No more forgotten friends, no more lost letters. Everything is near. Memory comes back.
FEEDBACKS arrive.
Artists, mathematicians, physicists, and military men construct objects of art under the guidance of Alexander Ponomarev. They use wreckages of the late empire, industrial fragments, and their personal experience as their tools and construction materials.
Fifteen co-authors from the CIS and the Baltic States operate the FEEDBACKS machine during the exhibition opening. They treadle, produce electric signal, and turn on peripheral parts. Throughout the exhibition this art machine can be operated by visitors.
