Hermitage Days - 2009

The meeting is dedicated to the 245th anniversary of the Hermitage, the main events will take place 7 - 9 December. On 8 December the Enamels of the World. 1700 - 2000. From the Khalili Collection exhibition will open in the Winter Palace. On 9 December the museum will invite its visitors to the solemn ceremony dedicated to St George's Day, when the public will be introduced to the gift of the Dukes Nikolay Romanovich and Dmitry Romanovich Romanovs. After that there will be an official opening of new permanent exhibitions Art and Culture of antique towns of the Northern Black Sea Coast.

Hermitage Days - 2009 opened on November, 30 with a traditional meeting with the Director of the museum Mikhail Piotrovsky. The meeting was dedicated to the 245th anniversary of the Hermitage. The main events will take place 7 - 9 December.

On 7 December, the birthday of the Hermitage and the Day of St Catherine, patroness of Catherine the Great who was the founder of the museum, a ceremonial gathering of museum personnel and press-conference will be held. At these events Mikhail Piotrovsky will sum up the preliminary results of the year, speak about plans for the future and introduce the public to the publishing activity of the Hermitage. The Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre will host the exhibitions Hermitage in the World of Publications - 2009 and Hermitage in Photographs - 2009. On the same day in the Hermitage Theatre for the fifth time museum workers will be awarded grants from the Vladimir Potanin Charitable Foundation.

On 8 December the Enamels of the World. 1700 - 2000. From the Khalili Collection exhibition will open in the Picket Hall of the Winter Palace. After the restoration the painting Pool in a Harem by the French artist Jean-Leon Gerome will be returned to the exhibition.

On 9 December the Hermitage will invite its visitors to the St George (Large Throne) Hall for a solemn ceremony dedicated to St George's Day. During this ceremony the public will be introduced to the gift of the Dukes Nikolay Romanovich and Dmitry Romanovich Romanovs - the St George sabre of Grand Duke Nikolay Nikolaevich Senior, to artifacts of the Army Museum of Stockholm and a gift of Yantarny Dom (Amber House) company - three remarkable drawings by Yury Felten, his designs of the Small Hermitage building. After that there will be an official opening of new permanent exhibitions Art and Culture of antique towns of the Northern Black Sea Coast in the halls of Bospor (the Antiquity Department) and Art of Daghestan in the 14th - Early 20th Centuries (the Oriental Department).

The last event of Hermitage Days will be the opening of the 12th International festival Admiralty Music in the Hermitage Theatre.
