Jerry Power (Sterling Heights) paints very realistic landscapes in pastel, working outdoors as often as possible. Although he does paint in oils, he favors pastels when painting in the field because he finds them easier to handle and more immediate.

The Maniscalco Gallery presents recent pastel paintings by
Jerry Power at the new gallery, 17728 Mack Avenue. The new Maniscalco
Gallery is 3 blocks north of the old space and has been completely
re-designed to effectively showcase some of Detroit's most gifted artists.
Jerry Power (Sterling Heights) paints very realistic landscapes in pastel,
working outdoors as often as possible. Although he does paint in oils, he
favors pastels when painting in the field because he finds them easier to
handle and more immediate. Power paints scenes with strong shadows so he
creates most of his landscapes in the early morning or late afternoon.
These are the times the landscapes seem to pull him in. He shares those
moments with the viewer which may never come again to spark an awareness
that nature is both beautiful and fragile. His sense of realism is his way
of honoring creation itself.
Power began actively pursuing painting in 1989 and has achieved much acclaim
since retiring from Ameritech. He has been artist in residence at Sleeping
Bear Dunes and the Indiana Dunes and has been the recipient of several
national awards, including first place in the Pastel Journal 2002. He
teaches en plein air workshops (painting in the open air), with one coming
up in Lake Orion at the end of June.
The Maniscalco Gallery was founded in 1997 by artist Robert Maniscalco. The
new Gallery offers custom art (including Robert's renown portraiture), art
consultation services, custom art, art classes and full service custom
framing.
Also, don't forget, Robert is offering FREE portrait painting demos EVERY
THURSDAY from 6-9 pm at the gallery throughout the summer for anyone
interested in learning more about the process of painting a portrait! It's
fun for the whole family! Call (313) 886-2993 for more info.
