Richardsons take though is fresh and original. His overtly sexual paintings are derived from pornographic imagery that has been appropriated from the Internet.

Kes Richardson graduated from Bath Spa University College in 1998.
Clapham Art Gallery is pleased to represent him in his first one-person
show in London.
Richardson is known for his clean hard-edged abstraction. Strip,
however, consists of figurative works derived from the traditional
format of portrait and nude. Richardsons take though is fresh and
original. His overtly sexual paintings are derived from pornographic
imagery that has been appropriated from the Internet. Through a process
of abstraction the original image is transformed and reduced to its
essential components. Using compositional cropping and flat planes of
colour from a restricted palette Richardson creates clean and graphic
works that at times verge on the point of abstraction.
Despite the explicit source material these works maintain a certain
ambiguity. They display a sensuality that is in contrast with their
origin. Through the transformation process Richardsons images move
from the graphic to the suggestive. His paintings are disciplined and
intimate interpretations of a hidden and often provocative subject
matter.
